Vision Bermuda

In view of the higher vulnerability of our client base and as a precautionary measure, it has been decided to suspend all classes and vision rehabilitation services until further notice, and with immediate effect. We feel it prudent to take these measures before this virus is prevalent in our community. . These are the considerations that have led to this decision:

  • Whilst there have been no reported cases in Bermuda as yet, the World Health Organization has upgraded the global risk of the spread of the coronavirus outbreak to "very high" - its top level of risk assessment. The virus that causes COVID-19 infects people and spreads from person-to-person easily. It is our responsibility to protect our community and to do what we can to reduce risk.
  • A high proportion of our members with vision loss have additional health needs or are elderly and the World Health Organization guidelines put them in the high risk category for Covid-19.
  • Those with sight loss rely more on tactile skills and so will be interacting with objects and surfaces a sighted person may not. Sighted guiding for instance, requires contact with another person. This puts blind and partially sighted people at greater risk of contracting and spreading the virus.
  • People with sight loss may have more difficulty in accessing up-to-date information they need to action urgently from the Health Department and Government regarding this pandemic and so may not as well prepared as they might be.

It is intended that Vision Bermuda will collate relevant and up-to-date information for Vision Bermuda members and be here to offer a telephone advice and guidance service. Additionally, our Activities Line (291 3231) will be used to give a recording of basic, up-to-date information that can be accessed at any time.
